Jinjiang District is one of the downtown areas of Chengdu and was established on January 1, 1991. The urban area mainly includes most of the original Dongcheng District and the Liulichang and Sansheng Flower Village of the original Jinniu District.
As we all know, Sichuan Brocade is endowed with rich cultural and artistic connotation as well as value for appreciation and collection. Historically, the main production area of Yujin was concentrated in Jinjiang District of Chengdu. Therefore, the name of Jinjiang District originated from this. The meaning of Jinjiang in Chinese is “濯錦之江”, which mean a river to wash is the Sichuan Brocade.
Historically, Jinjiang District has a long history of business history in ancient Huayang County and its suburbs. Since the beginning of the Tang Dynasty, the ancient Huayang County has been hailed as “Flourished city with thousands of business” in western Sichuan. It is the birthplace of “foreign and commercial affairs” in modern western China. In the area, there are the Great East Street and the Chunxi Road, which are praised as “First Street in Sichuan” and “Hundred Years Golden Street” respectively. Today, Jinjiang District still maintains the prosperous of modern business.
At the beginning of 2014, the Chengdu International Finance Center opened with a total construction area of approximately 760,000 square meters. In 2015, Chengdu Taikoo Li officially debuted and its architectural design was unique and fantastic by preserving ancient streets and historic buildings to create an open and free urban space for urbanites.
The rise of Hongxing Road-Daci Temple business zone is connected with the Chunxi Road-Yanshikou business zone, which makes the core of the entire commercial area appear eastward. The Chunxi Road central business area, which is composed of these two major business zones, is undoubtedly the largest scale commercial strip in Chengdu with the most complete retail ecology, the most abundant high-end brands and the most complete commercial service functions. Jinjiang District has more than 400 international famous brands such as Louis Vuitton, Prada and Hermès. The sales of goods are radiated throughout the Southwest, and the annual sales of the business district exceeds 50 billion yuan.
In September 2018, Jinjiang District was selected as one of the top 100 high-quality development regions in China in 2018, ranking 69th.
Famous Tourist Sites
Daci Temple (大慈寺)
Daci Temple has been around for more than 1600 years. Daci Temple has been revived and destroyed many times. The existing temples were rebuilt after the Emperor Shunzhi of Qing Dynasty. The Daci Temple in the Tang and Song Dynasties was the communication center of Buddhist academic among China, Japan and Korea .
Egret Bay Wetland Park (白鷺灣濕地公園)
Egret Bay Wetland Park, covering an area of about 3.3 square kilometers, consists of three major functional areas: aquatic crop area, flower industry park and creative industrial park. It is a combination of ecological protection, urban agriculture, natural landscape, science education and leisure tourism.
Sansheng Flower Village（三聖花鄉）
Sansheng Flower Village is one of the earliest areas in the southwestern region to develop the flower industry. It is a mixed sightseeing and agricalture industry that develops all aspects of scientific research, production, packaging and tourism of flowers in the theme of sightseeing and flower viewing.
The former site of Sichuan Postal Administration（西川郵政管理局舊址）
The former site of Xichuan Post Administration is located at the intersection of Shuwa North First Street and Xinglong Street. It was designed by Canadian architects Morrison and Ye Rongqing. It was built in 1937 and is the cultural relics protection unit of Sichuan Province.
