Jinniu District


Jinniu District is the hometown of Jiaozi (a paper currency in Northern Song dynasty). It is located in the northwest of Chengdu, with a total area of 108 square kilometers and a total population of 761,000. It is an advanced demonstration area for national sustainable development. It is also the most populous central district in Chengdu, with the most prosperous business and the most active economy. The total economic output ranked first in all districts (cities) in Chengdu for 19 consecutive years. Along with the reform and opening of China, it has formed the Hehuachi(lotus pond)market, which is a well-known integrated market, and the first western China decorative lighting city, and the largest metal, mechanical and electrical products trading base in the west China.

At present, Jinniu District has been built into a large economic zone in Chengdu, with six major industries including modern commerce, electronic information services, rail transit industry, engineering and technical services, modern pharmaceutical industry and urban tourism. It has formed seven functional sections including Western Technology Business Center, Northern Industrial Headquarters Base, Northern Trade City, Central Joy Area, Jinniu City Center, Chengbei City Commercial Center and Phoenix New City.

Jin from Jinniu, means gold, representing wealth and prosperity. Jinniu District has a history of more than 2,000 years since its establishment, and since ancient times, merchants have prospered and traffic has been woven. While benefiting from the long history of ancient civilizations and the richness of Fuyin in the plains of western Sichuan, countless Jinniu builders have contributed their industrious and intelligence to promote the rapid development of Jinniu’s economy and society, and to bring new vitality to the ancient Jinniu. Today’s Jinniu is praised as “the Pearl of Sichuan”.

In September 2018, the “White Paper on the Development of China’s Top 100 Districts in 2018” was released in Beijing and Jinniu district was elected as one of the top 100 regions in China in 2018.

Administrative Division

Jinniu District governs 15 streets: Xi’an Road Street, Xihua Street, Renmin North Road Street, Hehuachi Street, Shimaqiao Street, Chadianzi Street, Fuqin Street, Jiulidi Street, Wukuaishi Street, Huangzhong Street, Yingmenkou Street, Jinquan Street, Shaheyuan Street, Tianhui Town Street, Fenghuang Mountain Street.

Famous Tourist Sites

The Forever Mausoleum Museum (永陵博物館)

the Forever Mausoleum Museum is located in the Sandong Bridge in the northwest corner of Chengdu. It is the tomb of the former Emperor Wang Jian of the Five Dynasties. It is called “永陵”(the Forever Mausoleum) in the history.

Wang Jian was a native of Wuyang County, Henan Province. He was a general of the Tang Dynasty in the early years. He fled to Sichuan with Tang Yizong during the war in the late Tang Dynasty, and later served as an 刺史(CiShi, an officer who is to strengthen the supervision and control power of the central government)in Lizhou (now Guangyuan City). In 907 AD, after the Tang Dynasty was ruined, Wang Jian occupied Chengdu as the emperor, and named the country was Great Shu whici is so to speak the former Shu Empire.

Jinsha Ruins (金沙遺址)

The Jinsha site is located in Jinsha Village, Supo Town, the western suburb of Chengdu. It is the most important archaeological find in Sichuan after the Sanxingdui Ruins. This discovery traces the history of the ancient bronze civilization to 3,000 years ago.

There are more than 10 kinds and up to 400 items of jade articles unearthed from the ruins, such as jade bucket, jade tablet, jade sword and jade dagger. One of the emerald green jade, called “National Treasure”, is about 22 centimeters high. The style is exactly the same as that of Liangzhu Culture. The micro-carvings on it is extremely fine, and the pattern is as thin as the hair. There are also 170 pieces of stoneware unearthed, including stone people, stone tigers, stone snakes, and stone tortoises.

Lianghe Forest Park (兩河森林公園)

Lianghe Forest Park is located in the territory of Chunfeng Village and Qingshuihe Village, Jinniu Town, Jinniu District. With a total area of 4.373 million square meters, the park is a forest park that is far from the city and has an unprecedented scale and is known as the “largest green lung in the west of the city”. The significance of “green lung” is that the rich forest resources in the park will “release” more abundant and fresher oxygen for urban residents, and it will also have some effect on the improvement of air quality in the northwest of the city.
